Mr Nicolini - Tracy Mitchell & Chloe Mitchell

This week I'm bringing you two illustrations - illustrated by talented mother and daughter, Tracy and Chloe Mitchell.  The pair are studying illustration simultaneously and I'm very glad to be sharing their work with you!

The first drawing is by Tracy Mitchell. Tracy specialises in decorative illustration, which her piece brilliantly illustrates. She used fine liner on cartridge paper for this piece. I love the nature and animal elements, as well as the crossword in Mr Nicolini's cap - all relating to aspects of his wonderful personality.

The second piece is by Chloe Mitchell - her illustration is created on calico using fine liner pens and watercolour paints. She has also added offset screen printing in block colours. I think the orange and blue work especially well together, complimenting each other perfectly.

Mr Nicolini - Briony Jose

Our next Mr Nicolini illustration comes from the newly graduated Briony Jose. This wonderfully unique piece is typical of Briony's creative work - she begins with a pencil drawing, works into them using watercolours and inks and then cleans up in Photoshop where needed. I love how she allows the inks to flow on their own, resulting in really unique illustrations.

Mr Nicolini - Deirdre Spain

The next contribution comes from the wonderful Deirdre Spain. I love the warmth of character and use of line in this piece and one of my favourite things about it is the fact Deirdre has managed to include a part of Mr Nicolini's daily life - his crosswords!

Update: Last week I received an email from Mr Nicolini's great nephew to say he had searched the name 'Nicolini' and found this blog! He also let me know that Mr Nicolini is now a great great uncle! (A fact he was very proud to learn).

This wonderfully bright contribution comes from Ochre7. I love the line work and playful use of colour in this illustration. Do take a look at his website and Flickr for an incredibly diverse and exciting range of work!

Mr Nicolini - Julian Kimmings

Our fourth contributor is the fantastic Julian Kimmings. This incredible oil painting on board is full of movement, expression and emotion and we are completely in love with it! Julian has captured Mr Nicolini perfectly.

(We're visiting home at the beginning of May and I will be showing Mr Nicolini all of the portraits so far. We shall let you know what he thinks.) Let us know what you think of the portraits so far, we would love to hear from you.

Mr Nicolini - Tanya Hendrie

The next of the Mr Nicolini contributors is the brilliant Tanya Hendrie. I love the movement and use of, or rather the lack of, colour in this piece. I think it has a wintery feel which is perfect for this very cold March! Check out the rest of her work and let us know what you think!
